Andreas W. Prinz, MD
Dr. Prinz is an Associate Professor of Medicine at MCV Hospitals, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Director of the Echocardiography Lab at McGuire VA Medical Center. A native of Washington, DC, Dr. Prinz graduated Magna Cum Laude from George Washington University with a degree in Zoology. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, where he also did his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine. He received his Cardiology fellowship training at VCU School of Medicine and achieved the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) in 2002.
Dr. Prinz is highly regarded by VCU School of Medicine medical students, residents and fellows, as well as by the faculty and staff, for his teaching abilities. In recognition of his exceptional instruction skills, he was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award by the 2001 Cardiology Fellowship Class and the Excellence in Teaching Award by the 2005 Cardiology Fellowship Class. In addition, he received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the 2003 MCV Internal Medicine Housestaff. Dr. Prinz’s facility for instruction has been further utilized in numerous invited lectures and symposia for health care professionals.
Although it is very early in his career, Dr. Prinz has already been either principal or sub-investigator on seven externally funded research projects through federal, association and pharmaceutical company grants. He has authored or co-authored 10 abstracts and research papers, published in highly respected professional journals including Chest, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and Circulation.
Dr. Prinz is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is board certified in nuclear cardiology and is a member of the American Society of Nuclear Medicine.
