Dr. Nicolato is an assistant professor of surgery at VCU School of Medicine and a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Born in Dearborn, Michigan, Dr. Nicolato earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Wayne State University in 1987, then spent two years as a research coordinator with the Veterans Administration in Allen Park, Michigan, before earning her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1994.
Following her internship at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Nicolato completed her general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2000, followed by a cardiothoracic fellowship at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Brown Mills, New Jersey, in 2003. She was a cardiothoracic clinical instructor at VCU School of Medicine from 2004 to 2006 before becoming an attending surgeon and assistant professor in 2006.
Dr. Nicolato is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association and the David Hume Surgical Society. Her research has been published in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and in HeartRhythm, the official journal of the Heart Rhythm Society.
