Pramod K. Mohanty, MD, FACC, FACP, FAHA, CPE
Dr. P.K. Mohanty, a nationally recognized cardiologist in the field of Heart Failure/Transplant, is a Professor of Medicine at VCU Pauley Heart Center and the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at McGuire VA Medical Center.
Dr. Mohanty has been in academic medicine for over 25 years. After completing his residency in internal medicine and subsequently his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine, he joined the faculty of the Department of Medicine at VCU/MCV and as an attending staff member at the McGuire VAMC. He rose through the academic ranks to the rank of Professor of Medicine in 1991. Dr. Mohanty is Board certified in Internal Medicine and the subspecialty of Cardiology. His clinical expertise includes hypertension, heart failure and echocardiography. His current research interests include clinical trials in hypertension and heart failure and the echocardiography applications in patients with heart failure.
Dr. Mohanty is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the AHA Council of Circulation and Clinical Cardiology and the American Society of Angiology, and is a Certified Physician Executive. He is a scientific reviewer of Journal of Heart Lung Transplant, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and American Journal of Cardiology. His other scholarly accomplishments are his original contributions to literature with over 200 scientific articles and abstracts.
Dr. Mohanty is very active in patient care (heart failure), clinical research, and teaching of Cardiology Fellows. He also is involved in continuing educational activities as an invited speaker locally, regionally and nationally. He has extensive experience in leading a major Heart Failure/Transplant program, a large cardiovascular service at VAMC in Richmond, and as the Medicine Service and Chief of Staff at the Bay Pines VAMC. His personal vision is to advance the healthcare system to a level where evidence-based medical care is delivered with world-class service in a learning environment.
