In January 2006, the VCU Heart Center became the VCU Pauley Heart Center, in recognition of a $5 million gift from the Pauley Family Foundation. The designation places the heart center among only a few named major heart centers across the country.
Dorothy A. and Stanley F. Pauley lead the Pauley Family Foundation. Mr. Pauley, a former heart center patient, was impressed with the staff’s dedication and care, and wanted to give something back that would benefit not only Virginia Commonwealth University but also would help all Virginians. Expansion of the heart center staff and investment in rapidly changing technology to treat heart disease are two areas the Pauleys intend for their gift to impact.
The Pauley Family Foundation is a longtime supporter of Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2005, the Pauleys pledged $4 million in support of the Phase II building project for the VCU School of Engineering. The Foundation also is an ardent supporter of VCU Massey Cancer Center, contributing more than $50,000 since 1998. Other VCU beneficiaries of the Foundation’s generosity include the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir, Patient Treatment and Research, Rennolds Chamber Concerts and the Anderson Gallery.
Mr. and Mrs. Pauley give their time as well as their financial support to VCU. Mr. Pauley is a founding trustee of the VCU School of Engineering Foundation, serves on the School’s Advisory Board and is a member of the VCU Founder’s Society. Mrs. Pauley serves on the MCV Foundation Board of Trustees.
